## Questions about this world

### What is Montrimos?

Montrimos is a hand-made survival world of 3,072 × 3,072 blocks, made with WorldPainter, World Machine, Gaea, Axiom and WorldEdit, built for Minecraft Java 1.21.5. You download the world folder and play it like any other save, in singleplayer or on your own server.

### How big is Montrimos?

3,072 × 3,072 blocks, so about 9 million blocks of surface. Walking from one edge to the other takes roughly 12 minutes at normal walking speed. The terrain runs from Y -64 to Y 320.

Outside that area the world keeps generating normal vanilla Minecraft chunks, so you never hit a wall, you just leave the built part behind.

### Which Minecraft version does Montrimos need?

Montrimos is built for Minecraft Java **1.21.5**. Newer releases normally open it fine. Opening it in an *older* release is not supported: blocks and structures added after that version cannot load, and the world can be damaged by the attempt.

Bedrock players need a converted copy. See [the Bedrock notes in the FAQ](https://mcmeddon.com/faq#install-bedrock).

### Which biomes are in Montrimos?

19 in total. The land is mostly Badlands (52.7%), Desert (34.0%), Plains (5.1%) and Beach (3.4%), counted as shares of the land rather than of the whole map.

Water covers 35.6% of the map, and land 64.1%.

The [full breakdown](https://mcmeddon.com/worlds/20250815-montrimos#biome-composition) is further up this page, with every biome and its share.

### Which structures are in Montrimos?

13 of the 19 structure types the scan checks are confirmed present: surface (2/7), underground (6/6), ocean (3/4), portal structures (1/1) and settlements (1/1).

Not confirmed: Igloos (not checked), Jungle pyramids (searched, not found), Pillager outposts (searched, not found), Swamp huts (searched, not found), Woodland mansions (searched, not found) and Buried treasure (searched, not found). "Searched, not found" means the scan looked and came up empty; "not checked" means it has not been looked for yet.

[The structure list](https://mcmeddon.com/worlds/20250815-montrimos#structure-coverage) above names every one of them.

### Is Montrimos ready to play in survival?

Yes. A scan of the world file confirms loot tables, structures, animals and ores, so the survival loop runs from the first night: chests hold the game's real loot tables, mobs spawn as they do anywhere else, and you can mine, farm and build without adding anything. It plays in vanilla Minecraft, with no mods, no datapacks and no creative mode.
